Btw, meant to say, whilst in London I spotted Simon Heffer looking the stuffy pompous twat he is in Kensington (can't believe he's only a year older than me) and Clare Short in Earls Court.

Can't believe a week has passed since I arrived at EOTR. This time last week I was probably experiencing the thrills of  Californian heavy blues duo  Deap Vally  (think I previously mis-spelt their name - apologies go out to DV). They warned the audience it was going to be loud (unusual) and it was.  The warm-up night audience generously lapped it up and unlike Dinosaur Jr who were similarly loud/heavy on the final night (more later) there wasn't a melody in sight.  That's no good for me in 2013.  In truth it never has been. As I said last week there 5 bands on the night all from the Communion record label/promotions roster including soon to be Boro faves Catfish and the Bottlemen .  The singer, Van McCann (I'm not buying that's real) is a genuine hoot and a half as well so Teesside people join me at The Westgarth on 8 October.     Overall I counted up that I saw 50 bands/artists over the 4 days and much of it very good or better ...

EDL - Off Our Streets!

Absolutely no apologies for this late post.  Could have left it but it's too important. I was out having a drink with some friends during the week before the English Defence League's march in Middlesbrough Town Centre on 9/7.   We speculated why the EDL were marching in Middlesbrough?  The National Front failed to get a foothold back in the day and the BNP have made no impact whatsoever, ever. Make no mistake despite their seemingly respectable public face  they are the same right wing thugs that are always milling around waiting for an opportunity to appear part of the political mainstream so they can feed there poisonous hatred en masse. There's no need for me to hyper-link to other articles about them. More of an essay than an autobiography - Tick Tick (part 1)

When all is said and done So finally My Swelling Heart is released as I always knew it would be.  The original master tape went missing about 2 hours(only a slight exaggeration)   after we walked out of Guardian Studios, Pity Me back in the late spring of 1980.  Our plan was to release it as a single with Examining My Fear on the b-side but after the financial sting me, Gary and Richard took on our 12 inch EP “The Immortalisation of Tick Tick we were unwilling to stump up again.  It was a such a rubbish decision on so many levels.     ·          It would have been so much cheaper than the first time with no lavish plan to release it on a 12inch single ·          The recording costs were a lot cheaper than for our record.  ·          We were led by the nose when we recorded “Immortalisation”.  ·    ...
