Hurworth Burn Reservoir – Old Railway Path Walk loop from Trimdon Village

Image
Had a normal busy Saturday morning. Usual shopping for Sham’s parents and an occasional shop for one of her elderly neighbours (yep - even older than us), a sit down visit to Sham’s mam and dad’s (we usually just drop the shopping off), back home to Sham’s to drop shopping off and on to Hurworth Burn Reservoir for a 6 mile walk. Sham’s dad is 96 in a few weeks time. All his family in India and friends in the UK are dead. He’s by some way the oldest person I’ve ever known. He’s knackered  as a 96 year old would be but he’s generally pretty and as sharp as a tack. We had a chat about the World Cup. He told me he watched the 3 games yesterday and we talked about Leslie Brown’s toy shop in Stockton that closed many years ago. I’m willing him to keep going although I’m not so sure he’s too bothered. He knows he’s coming back in some form or other.  The walk was brill. It was a route we know well. We had to do a bit of detour at one point through a herd of cows to Sham’s displeasure...
