Happy New Year

How many times to we say Happy New Year?  When is it ok to start?  30/12? 31/12, 1/1.  When is the latest you can wish somebody HNY (seems to be the latest thing to abbreviate)?  1/1? 2/1? 3/1?  The first time you see somebody in the new year?  What if you don't see or speak to somebody until March? Should you/is it still ok to wish them Happy New Year?  Think I might go with first time I see/speak up to end of January so no offence if I don't see you until April and I don't wish you HNY.

In the interests of full disclosure I confess I didn't avoid Hootenanny completely, I saw about 2 minutes (11.57 to approx 11.59).  We broke off from our Homeland  series 4 cramathon (not bad) to consciously see the New Year in.  We tried Beeb 2 where Queen appeared to be doing a Karaoke with singers from the audience (they must be really pissed off with Freddie Mercury for dying before they made any money).  It was horrific and in a moment of madness we thought 5 minutes of Hootenanny would be tolerable.  Needless to say it wasn't so we switched back to the Queen Karaoke/Fireworks until about 12.02 before returning to Homeland.  Finally went to bed about 1.30.  

The 2 minutes of Hootenanny was as horrific as TV gets and in a way I'm glad I caught it as a reminder to avoid it again next year.

So NY negotiated, resolutions announced.  Better go and prepare for my 9th birthday party tomorrow.

Can't believe a week has passed since I arrived at EOTR. This time last week I was probably experiencing the thrills of  Californian heavy blues duo  Deap Vally  (think I previously mis-spelt their name - apologies go out to DV). They warned the audience it was going to be loud (unusual) and it was.  The warm-up night audience generously lapped it up and unlike Dinosaur Jr who were similarly loud/heavy on the final night (more later) there wasn't a melody in sight.  That's no good for me in 2013.  In truth it never has been. As I said last week there 5 bands on the night all from the Communion record label/promotions roster including soon to be Boro faves Catfish and the Bottlemen .  The singer, Van McCann (I'm not buying that's real) is a genuine hoot and a half as well so Teesside people join me at The Westgarth on 8 October.     Overall I counted up that I saw 50 bands/artists over the 4 days and much of it very good or better ...

Virgin are really fucking me about, making it very difficult for me to post. I keep getting a message to activate my account. Wouldn't normally bother me but they keep asking me to select a password and when I choose my e-mail address (the same one I've had for about 8 years) it says I can't have it as somebody else has it! Given that I've only stayed with them all these years to keep my e-mail address I'm not going any further until I speak to somebody. My tenant goes in to my house tomorrow so I'll be a landlord so there'll be no more slagging off capitalists in this house. Kirkstone Road continues to be sublime. Got a Chinese takeaway from the new Beijing Dragon at Norfolk shops. It was awesome and it goes straight in at number one (according to my discerning pallet anyway) with a bullet. Happy days!

An Epiphany

Hello All, Some of you might have noticed I haven't posted much recently.   I've lapsed a number of times over the years (usually down to bone idleness or personal crisees) but this time I actually made the conscious decision but for posting the occasional photograph to go into semi-retirement.  So don't call me a lazy bastard this time ok? I'd never heard the word epiphany ( don't feel ashamed if you had to look it up, I wasn't quite sure either ) used in every day speak until about 6 weeks ago when our Russ used it but I suppose I've had one today.  It hasn't been particularly fun-packed.  In fact, after a great walk this morning (9 1/2 miles - Billingham Park Circular 9 1/2 miles) and Boro getting beat 2-0 by Leeds I've done bugger all.  Apart from....................... 1.  Started getting a bit down.  I've' got a tough couple of weeks ahead of me.  It will be the 4th anniversary of my father's death on...
